Nickel 201 is the low-carbon version of Nickel 200. The Nickel 201 has the same characteristics as the Nickel 200. These properties and chemical composition make Nickel 201 fabricatable and highly resistant to corrosive environment. Nickel 201 is useful in any environment above 600ºF. It is highly resistant to corrosion by neutral and alkaline salt solutions, fluorine and chlorine. Nickel 201 also has low corrosion rates in neutral and distilled water. Nickel 200 (UNS N02200/W.Nr. 2.4060 & 2.4066) is commercially pure (99.6%) wrought nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy are its magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivities, low gas content and low vapor pressure. Chemical composition is shown in Table 1. The corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 makes it particularly useful for maintaining product purity in the handling of foods, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalies; and also in structural applications where resistance to corrosion is a prime consideration. Other applications include chemical shipping drums, electrical and electronic parts, aerospace and missile components.

Rene 41 is a precipitation hardening, nickel-based high temperature alloy possessing high strength in the 1200/1800°F (649/982°C) temperature range. This alloy is designed for use in severely stressed high temperature applications.

Applications

Rene 41 has found applications in jet engine and high speed airframe components such as: afterburner parts, turbine casings, wheels, buckets, bolts, and fasteners.

Corrosion Resistance

Rene 41 is highly corrosion and oxidation resistant. It provides very good resistance to jet engine combustion gases up to 1800°F (982°C).

INCONEL® alloy 718 (UNS N07718/W.Nr. 2.4668) is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel chromium material used at -423° to 1300°F. Typical composition limits are shown in Table 1. The age-hardenable alloy can be readily fabricated, even into complex parts. Its welding characteristics, especially its resistance to postweld cracking, are outstanding. The ease and economy with which INCONEL alloy 718 can be fabricated, combined with good tensile, fatigue, creep, and rupture strength, have resulted in its use in a wide range of applications. INCOLOY® alloy 945 (UNS N09945) is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy designed for demanding applications in the oil and gas industry. The properties of this age hardenable nickel-iron-chromium alloy are enhanced by its contents of molybdenum, copper, niobium, titanium, and aluminum. The chemical composition of alloy 945 is seen in Table 1. The alloy’s nickel content results in resistance to chlorideinduced stress corrosion cracking. Nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives alloy 945 outstanding resistance to general corrosion in reducing media. Molybdenum also imparts resistance to localized attack (pitting and crevice corrosion). The alloy’s content of chromium provides resistance in oxidizing environments. Niobium, titanium and aluminum participate in the age hardening reaction that occurs during heat treatment. Their interaction forms gamma prime and gamma double prime precipitates, which strengthen the alloy. INCOLOY alloy 945 is suitable for downhole oil and gas applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance in aggressive sour wells containing high levels of hydrogen sulfide and chorides. Because of the alloy’s resistance to stress cracking in environments rich in hydrogen sulfide, it is suitable for downhole and surface gas-well components including tubular products, valves, hangers, landing nipples, tool joints and packers. The alloy can also be used for fasteners, pump shafting and high strength piping systems.

Inconel HX® is used for components such as combustion chambers, tail pipes in aircraft and land-based gas turbine engines, fans and rollers in industrial furnaces. Waspaloy (UNS N07001/W. Nr. 2.4654) is a nickelbase, age hardenable superalloy with excellent hightemperature strength and good corrosion resistance, notably to oxidation, at service temperatures up to 1200°F (650°C) for critical rotating applications, and up to 1600°F (870°C) for other, less demanding, applications. The alloy’s high-temperature strength is derived from its solid solution strengthening elements, molybdenum, cobalt and chromium, and its agehardening elements, aluminum and titanium. Its strength and stability ranges are higher than those typically available for alloy 718. Waspaloy is used for gas turbine engine components that call for considerable strength and corrosion resistance at high operating temperatures. Current and potential applications include compressor and rotor discs, shafts, spacers, seals, rings and casings, fasteners and other miscellaneous engine hardware, airframe assemblies and missile systems.

Alloy 42 (Nilo 42) is a nickel-iron controlled-expansion alloy containing 42% nickel. Alloy 42 (Nilo 42) has a low and normally constant coefficient of thermal expansion from room temperature to about 300ºC (570ºF). Alloy 42 (Nilo 42) is used for semiconductor lead frames in integrated circuits, bi-metal thermostat strip, thermostat rods, for ceramic-to-metal seals with alumina ceramics, and various glass-to-metal seals such as the core of copper-clad-wire for sealing into glass envelopes of electric bulbs, radio valves, television tubes and fluorescent lights.

MP35N® is a multi-phase alloy containing Nickel, Cobalt, Chromium and Molybdenum with a unique range of properties - ultra high strength, toughness, biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. It is produced by vacuum induction melting and vacuum arc re-melting (VIM-VAR) and is then strengthened by work hardening and aging, giving hardnesses of up to 55-60 Rockwell C and strength levels as high as 260-300KSI.

Due, to this unique combination of properties, MP35N® has many applications in such industries as oil and gas, aerospace and medical. MP35N can be effectively used at cryogenic temperatures without embrittlement and maintain its properties at temperatures up to 600°F, and is also suitable for medical implants and orthodontic/prosthetic devices.

MP35N® is able to resist corrosion to most mineral acid, hydrogen sulfide and seawater environments whilst exhibiting excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and hydrogen embrittlement, even at high strength levels. NACE MR0175 allows a hardness of up to 51 HRC for material that has been work strengthened and aged by one of the processes listed in the table below.

Properties

HAYNES 25 (L605) is a non-magnetic cobalt based superalloy. HAYNES 25 (L605) maintains good strength upto 2150°F. AMS 5759 requires minimum yield strength of 45,000 psi at room temperature. HAYNES 25 (L605) maintains good oxidation resistance up to 1900° F. HAYNES 25 (L605) has a unique ability to resist corrosion in very severe environments. Highly resistant to hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and wet chlorine (subject to need for exercising care in its selection at certain con¬centrations and temperatures)

 

Hardenability

HAYNES 25 (L605) hardness is typically 250 BHN and never higher than 275 BHN by specification. Not significantly hardenable. Does not respond to customary aging treatments, but strain aging at relatively low temperatures (700-1100° F) can improve creep and rupture strength when the alloy is in service at temperatures under 1300° F. Also, tensile and creep strength can be improved by cold working. HAYNES 25 (L605) is an austenitic alloy.

WASPALOY®

Waspaloy® is an age hardening nickel base superalloy with useful strength at temperatures up to 1400-1600°F, and good oxidation resistance in gas turbine engine atmospheres up to 1600°F. The creep-rupture strength of Waspaloy is superior to that of alloy 718 at temperatures above 1150-1200°F. Short time hot tensile strength is inferior to alloy 718 at temperatures up to 1350°F.

Welding is difficult, and best performed on material in the solution annealed condition. Limit currents and the size of the fusion zone. Rapid cooling from welding is necessary to minimize aging stresses. Copper backup bars or water cooled fixtures are desirable. After welding, the fabrication should be solution treated, using rapid heating and cooling rates through the aging range. Follow anneal by stabilization and aging treatments.

A typical heat treatment is a solution heat teat at 1825°F for 2 hours, air cool. Stabilize heat treat at 1550°F for 4 hours, air cool. Precipitation heat treat at 1400°F for 16 hours, air cool.

Nickel 200 (UNS N02200/W.Nr. 2.4060 & 2.4066) is commercially pure (99.6%) wrought nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy are its magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivities, low gas content and low vapor pressure. Chemical composition is shown in Table 1. The corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 makes it particularly useful for maintaining product purity in the handling of foods, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalies; and also in structural applications where resistance to corrosion is a prime consideration.
